Three label essentials

The AAD recommends broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Broad spectrum indicates coverage against UVA and UVB radiation. A high SPF does not replace the other features or correct application.

Choose for your needs

Texture, tolerance and ease of use help sustain the habit. If acne-prone, consider non-comedogenic options; if a product irritates you, ask about alternatives. You do not need to copy another person’s choice to protect your skin.

Apply and reapply

Apply before going outdoors and cover exposed skin, including ears and neck. Outdoors, the AAD advises reapplication approximately every two hours and after swimming or sweating. Also follow the specific directions on the packaging.

Sunscreen is not the only measure

Shade, clothing and sunglasses are part of sun protection. Do not treat sunscreen as permission for unlimited exposure. Daily consistency and exposure conditions matter more than reserving it only for holidays or sunny days.

A simple review

Check the label, expiry date and how you actually use it. Bring the product to your consultation if you have questions about tolerance, pigmentation or treatments requiring additional sun care.
