BODY AESTHETIC MEDICINE
Non-surgical body contouring: what can and cannot it achieve?
Understand the possibilities and limits of non-invasive body contouring, and the questions to ask before choosing a treatment.

One area, one objective
Non-invasive body contouring includes technologies applied without incisions to address specific areas. Depending on the technology, the aim may concern small fat deposits or the appearance of the skin.
It is not a weight treatment
The FDA distinguishes these procedures from obesity treatment: they do not provide the health benefits associated with weight loss. They also do not equal surgical removal of excess skin. Understanding this distinction prevents decisions based on the wrong promise.
Gradual changes, not guarantees
The AAD describes changes from some fat-reduction techniques as gradual and subtler than liposuction. Outcomes depend on the method, patient selection and the area assessed.
Questions before starting
Ask what will be targeted, how progress will be documented and what risks the proposed device carries. Also ask about the total cost, follow-up visits and the possibility of an insufficient change.
Bring this to your consultation
Describe your priority in your own words before choosing a machine. A responsible plan should explain both its possible contribution and what it will not resolve, allowing you to decide without pressure to buy a package.
